Club History

As one of the longest-standing and esteemed clubs in the Wyndham Basketball Association, Iramoo Basketball Club takes pride in its rich heritage. We are a nonprofit organization driven by our members and volunteers, dedicated to offering sports opportunities to individuals of all abilities.

The Iramoo Basketball Club was took part in its inaugural games being played on October 4th, 1980 . The club aimed to serve as a focal point for young people in Werribee and the surrounding areas providing them with an opportunity to learn the rules and skills of basketball. From its early days, the club emphasized the promotion of co-operative team play, regular exercise, and good sportsmanship among its members.

In its early years, the Iramoo Basketball Club fielded several teams including the Iramoo Sioux, Iramoo Hatchets, Iramoo Marksmen and Iramoo Bobbysoxers. These teams represented the club in various competitions, showcasing the talents and dedication of its players. The club’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a competitive spirit was evident through the achievements of its junior teams.

In 1982, the U11 Girls team, known as the Iramoo Telstars, clinched the first Junior Girls Championship during the Winter Season marking a significant milestone for the club. The following year, in 1983, the U11 Boys team, named the Iramoo Bobbysoxers, secured the first Junior Boys Championship during the Summer Season. These victories showcased the club’s commitment to developing young talent and providing a platform for success.

Throughout its history, the Iramoo Basketball Club has had several life members who have made significant contributions to its growth and success. Their dedication and involvement have helped maintain an effective voluntary administration structure within the club, ensuring the best possible opportunities for all its members.

Over the years, the Iramoo Basketball Club has continued to promote the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and self-discipline among its members. It has served as a positive influence on the local community, encouraging young people to engage in regular exercise and recreation while fostering a love for basketball. With a rich history and a commitment to providing opportunities for players of all ages, the Iramoo Basketball Club remains an integral part of the Werribee sporting scene.
